You can use the A button to throw the other Sonic you aren't controlling as a projectile, but this is completely useless. In this boss fight, you play as Classic Super Sonic and Modern Super Sonic, and you can switch between the two with the Y button.
This guy might be the most annoying boss in all of gaming.
